Each year I like to give back. I will offer professional photos to someone who gives to their community without expecting anything in return. Francesco and his father Guiseppe are such passionate and friendly people who run Cantina Raustella. They are keeping the history of wine growing on the island of Ischia, Italy alive with a fully stocked museum built into the side of a mountain.
I had spoken to Francesco on Whats App and Facebook but my Italian is pretty limited so it was a bit tricky. But you know what they say about Italians, they talk with their hands. Therefore communicating in person was a little easier. However I am not sure if I actually achieved the purpose of Paying it Forward. After my trip to Cantina Raustella I felt like Francesco was the one who was paying it forward to us! It’s that famous Italian hospitality. My friend Maria and I had the best time!! Our stay at Cantina Raustella was probably one of our best memories from our trip to Ischia and Procida.
Those Antique Lanterns…
It was the beautiful antique lanterns of Cantina Raustella that first attracted us to this amazing winery – be sure to check out the image at the end! After a tour of the museum I was left to capture some photos of these amazing antiques and relics. We were supposed to do a short wine tasting with bruschetta and then we would head back to our Airbnb. But after that we were treated to two more delicious courses with rabbit and red sauce and incredible pasta. All locally sourced of course! And then some stronger alcohol was offered with profiteroles and fresh fruit. The whole night was spent with Russian friends of the owners. It was an unforgettable time where we let lose and really relaxed! Thank you Francesco and Guiseppe!
