About

Gemma Clarke - The Person and The Photographer

I am Gemma and I have captured many candid & special moments for my clients since 2006. It is time for me to take a step back from photographing and concentrate on offering my skills in designing beautiful stories through high quality archive-safe albums, loose prints and framed wall prints.

I am also offering mentoring services to photographers and those wanting to learn from my experience in wedding and portrait photography. My mentoring services are customised to your specific needs so you can ask about anything – from running a small business to editing to how to use the manual setting on your camera. I really enjoy working closely with others so offering one-on-one mentoring can very rewarding for us both!

I didn’t grow up thinking I would be a photographer. Photography found me through my love of people, connection and my naturally creative eye.

I am based in the lovely suburb of Picnic Point in South West Sydney. I have a studio with many samples of my album and print/frame options. Visits to the studio are by appointment only.

I am a fully accredited photographer of AIPP – The Australian Institute of Professional Photography. I have a COVID-Safe plan and am registered with the NSW Government. Your safety is my priority. You can ask to see my plan here.

Other things about me and my business

    • I worked in Media/PR/Marketing and Events for charity organisations before going full-time with Gemma Clarke Photography.

    • I have been working with Queensberry to make my albums since 2010 and I only trust them to create stunning, archive safe albums that will last for generations to come. They use only the highest quality materials and I work with you personally to get your custom design exactly as how you want it!

    • I have won eight national and state AIPP Photographic Awards for my work on weddings, travel and lifestyle portraits. I have also won three local business awards. I know it sounds cheesy but the greatest reward is making others happy.

    • I love scarves, woollen blankets and Scandinavian design. I may get a little too excited about decorating for Christmas! I also love Nordic dramas.

    • Red and Yellow are my top favourite colours followed by deep pink, orange, blue, green, charcoal, purple…I could probably list them all – I love bright colours and bod designs!

    • I have met the REAL DEAL Santa in Finland and he is awesome. I have been ice swimming twice and rally driving in the snow.

    • I have a Bachelor of Business with UTS majoring in Management and PR. I received a TAFE State Medal for Public Relations in 2005.

    • I love animals! Our furbabies are our everything. I worked for RSPCA NSW for 5 years and it was such an amazing experience to help so many animals and people in the process.

    • My husband’s dimples are my greatest weakness, then comes gingerbread ice-cream and Vietnamese and Thai food! And of course the furbabies.

    • At age 42 I started drinking coffee (Italian Nonnas got me hooked!) 😊.

    • When I travel, I love visiting little villages and finding unique experiences like connecting with artists and those who are passionate about what they do in their community. So far my most incredible experiences have been in Italy, Croatia, Greece and Finland. You can see two of my amazing experiences in the Umbrian village of Spello here and here.

    • In saying that, I love giving back to the community and creating connection among others through my photos. I have offered my services many times as ‘Pay it Forward’ projects to highlight amazing people and organisations when I have travelled in Europe and in my local community. You can see some of my projects in the Portraits and Travel section of my website.

I’d love to hear your story!
