Annie and Spencer decided to celebrate their 11 year anniversary by having a Gibraltar Hotel Wedding in Bowral. The hotel also hosts the country club, a spectacular golf course and the tranquillity of the Southern Highlands. These are some of the reasons they chose this lovely spot in Bowral.
It was a mild overcast day which provided a lovely ambience to enjoy the lovely green views at this Gibraltar Hotel Wedding. The ceremony location by the lake was spectacular and I am glad my assistant was able to capture some amazing photos from the other side. All the wedding guests were reflected in the water. The ceremony was filled with lots of emotion but also lots of laughs as the celebrant Louise spoke about Annie and Spencer’s story, including the surprise proposal. Spencer had been working secretly to design a ring with meaning for Annie. He chose ten small diamonds to represent each year they had been together and then one big diamond for the rest of their lives. I think everyone was envious of Spencer’s romantic gesture.
Other parts of their wedding day had meaning also including the flowers, although they didn’t know it at the beginning of the decision process. I will let Annie describe it for you…”We chose tulips just by chance because it’s tulip time [in the Southern Highlands] and one of my bridesmaids suggested it would be nice. A few months ago I looked up what tulips mean. They are the flower for the 11 year wedding anniversary, and we are getting married on the day of our 11 year anniversary.” What a very lovely coincidence!
There is also something else that should be mentioned about Annie and Spencer’s Gibraltar Hotel Wedding and that is the role of Annie’s grandfather, Jimpa. At every wedding, it is tradition for the grandkids to get up and ‘rock it out’ to Sweet Caroline with Jimpa. He has all the moves and puts us younger folk to shame! My favourite moment during the wedding was when he stood up and hugged Annie straight after she made her speech. I think he was so proud of her and so moved by her speech. Definitely a skill she has inherited from her very talented speech-giving mother! Do not miss the moment in the photos below – the emotion cannot be replicated – there could be tears when you see it, happy tears!
And if you want a laugh, don’t miss the moment where they asked for all the single men in the room to stand up and Jimpa got up on his chair with his arms in the air! Jimpa certainly stole the show at the reception!
And a huge thanks to my assistant Alex for being such a great help on the day and capturing some amazing photos also!
