2016 Highlights – Gemma Clarke Photography

From Lapland to Vietnam to Sydney Harbour - Relaxed Weddings, Portraits and Travel

As I enter my 10th year of photographing weddings, I am excited to see that each year is just as awesome as the year before! I have had so many opportunities to meet so many kind, loving and laid back people. I think that is what makes me different to other photographers out there – I put people first and then the photography follows. By putting the people first I am able to form a connection with them and therefore make them feel more comfortable in front of the camera. They receive the candid, natural and relaxed photos they want and also have a good time while being in front of my camera!

This year has been a big year with a new tablet/mobile-friendly website being launched and the introduction of my new branding – from a more conservative red and black to a fun, happy and relaxed yellow! I believe this new branding represents more of what I offer to my clients :).
But enough of the business talk – let’s talk about the fun that was had this year and below I shared my Top 16 Photos and 2016 Highlights. But to be honest, I think I really have a favourite Top 16,000 ;). I thank all my clients for their amazing support, kindness and generosity in letting me into their lives this year.

2016 Highlights

  • A lifestyle portrait session over two days in Lapland, Finland. This involved a snow fight, snowshoeing through the forest, visiting the oldest ski lift in northern Europe, cooking Salmon over a fire, sledding and enjoying the Northern Lights which appeared over the cabin we were staying in.
  • I photographed a Sydney Harbour Wedding that involved four boats!
  • I led a snowy Photowalk for 50 people in suburban Helsinki in minus 10-degree weather.
  • I photographed many families including a new family member – a little kitten.
  • I captured wedding moments in the Southern Highlands, Tasmania, Adelaide, Sydney and snowy Finland in an open-air chapel!
  • I led my first Travel Photography one-on-one mentoring program while hiking in Northern Vietnam.
  • I have now photographed more than 250 weddings with almost 10% of those being overseas!
  • I loved capturing Felicia and Drew’s intimate wedding at their home in August.
  • I have a client who has booked me for 15 different photo sessions since 2012 which includes christenings, portraits, wedding, engagement, parties etc.
  • I captured a few kids parties – Animal themed with real reptiles and snakes, a Superhero party with special guest stars Superman and Wonder Woman and a Harry Potter party with a Sorting Hat that actually talked!
  • I photographed my first same-sex engagement session and I booked my first same-sex wedding!
  • I look forward to 2017!
