Sunrise Portraits at Ballast Point Park – Megan, Andrew & Monty

Pet and Engagement Portraits as the sun rose over Sydney

I have found a new favourite place to photograph in Sydney – either for portrait sessions or weddings! Thank you to Megan and Andrew for suggesting Ballast Point Park in Birchgrove for your engagement portraits. The park is modern with heritage elements and overlooks Sydney Harbour. These Ballast Point Park portraits are amongst my favourites for those located in Sydney.

Andrew loves his job working on tug boats and the park overlooks where these tug boats run so it was a perfect choice for their engagement portraits. The day started off very cloudy and we were worried we weren’t going to see any sun but as it rose behind the clouds we saw an amazing orange colour appear in the sky. I actually had to reduce the vibrance on these photos as the sunrise was THAT colourful!! It was so beautiful :). It was a spectacular backdrop for a walk in Ballast Point Park.

Megan and Andrew brought along their beloved dog, Monty for their Ballast Point Park Portraits. This canine kept us occupied with ball throwing and gazing at her cute head tilting for the camera! It was a great morning and I look forward to Megan and Andrew’s wedding on the wharves and Cockatoo Island next month (you can see their amazing wedding photos here)!

You can read more about this amazing space here – borrowed from the Leichhardt Council’s website

“This 2.6-hectare park offers Sydneysiders and visitors walking paths, access for cyclists and green picnic spots with incredible views of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

One of the park’s most interesting features is the way the site’s history has been brought to life for visitors through design, art and poetry, including

* Tank 101: a structure to symbolise the site’s working harbour history

* Delicate Balance: an artwork that represents the use of sandstone from the site as ballast for European ships.

Aboriginal history has been recognised in a dual name for the park – Walama – which means ‘to return’ and highlights the area’s transformation from industrial use back to nature.”
